a big brother to look up to

This weekend was Elijah's piano recital. Confident and composed, he played his two songs in front of a packed house. It was awesome. A proud moment for all of us. I can't wait to see where this interest in—and aptitude for—music takes him.

I don't talk much specifically about step-parenting here. I feel that it is primarily Elijah's and my story and I feel very protective of that. Step-parenting doesn't always have the best reputation, and sometimes for good reason. (It is a challenge, just like every kind of parenting.) But, I have to say, being Elijah's stepmother is a joy and a privilege. I won the lottery with this kid.
